A Midsummer Night's Dream Open Ended Response Questions

Did you like the play? Why or why not?
I have mixed feelings about this play, sometimes I loved it but sometimes I wanted to close the book for good. I liked the book during the parts where everything is going well like in the end when everyone was happy and had gotten married to the person they loved. Also I liked the funny parts of the play with bottom and the other craftsmen in the play. I hated the parts of the play when everything was going wrong. When all the characters were upset and fighting like when Puck put the love potion on the wrong person(Lysander instead of Demetrius)I just couldn't stand the story. Any other time when the characters was sad, angry or depressed the play bothered because I can not stand to see people upset.

Who was your least favorite character? Why?
My least favorite character was Egeus. I chose him as my least favorite character because if had not meddled Hermia and Lysander could have married sooner. All though if Hermia and Lysander had not run off into the forest Puck never would have made that mistake and Helena and Demetrius wold not have ended up together. All though with out Egeus the story would be so much happier. Eqeus is defiantly the worst character in the play because he is so stubborn.

Would you change any part of the play? Why or why not? If you would, what would you change?
If I could change anything in the play it would be that Titania and Oberon would love each other. If the where happy then most of the characters would have lovee in the end and everything would be much more pleasant. I feel like in the end it just cuts off and doesnt really dive you what happens after Puck speaks. I wanted more of a story after everything was good again, like what happends to all the characters after all is back to normal.

It all starts off with the fairies talking about the plans of their rulers. Then Titania and Oberon enter with their fairies and argue about who gets the human boy that Titania has taken in after his mother dies. They also accuse each other of cheating on one another. Then Titania and her fairies leave and Oberon the king of fairies talks to Robin/Puck and tells him to bring him a special flower that makes people fall madly in love with the first thing they see when they wake up. A Midsummer Night's Dream-Act 1 Summary

Today and yesterday our class has been reading A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. We just finished Act 1 of the play and I'm writing a summary of it so everybody knows what has been happening recently. Enjoy!

Scene 1: First we are with Theseus ans Hippolyta as they discuss their wedding and how they are eager to wed on the new moon. Then Egeus comes in with Demitrius, Hermia and Lysander to request that Theseus induce the death penalty if Hermia refuses to marry Demitrius, his first choice even though Hermia loves Lysander. Theseus says that Hermia can either be executed, forced to live life as a nun or marry Demitrius, the choice is hers. Theseus says that she has to make her decision by the day of his wedding to Hippolyta(that's in 4 days!). Everybody leaves except Hermia and Lysander and they make a run away and get married in a place that the laws of Athens can't reach. Then Helena comes and Hermia and Lysander tell her of their plan. After Hermia and Lysander leave Helena decides to tell Demetrius of their plan thinking that he will be so grateful that he will fall in love with her again.

Scene 2: In this scene we have Quince, Snug, Bottom, Flute, Starvling and Snout. These are the working class people of Athens who are putting on a play for the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta. In this scene everybody is assigned their roles in the play called A Very Tragic Comedy About the Horrible Deaths of Pyramus and Thisbe. Also in this scene we get to see a little bit of the personalities f the people and a lot of Nick Bottom who is self centered and thinks that he can play every part in the play. Bottom also is not very bright and frequently confuses words. After they all receive their roles and scripts they leave to go learn their lines.
